J Crew Fitting Room Reviews (August 2012 Roll-Out)

First I have a couple of store shots, which have some cute outfit ideas that include the Tippi in Heart Me (I got the navy/grey colorway in Virginia).

And here are the few things I tried on.

 Tippi in Heart Me. Size Small.
I have this same sweater in blue/grey, but I love this color too. I just don't know if I can justify two heart sweaters. I love the idea of putting a patterned buttondown under this sweater. The X-Small would have been fine, if I did not plan to layer. I sized up for that purpose.
Perfect Shirt in Medium Gingham, Timeless Turquoise. Size 4.
I love the color of this shirt! I have several plaids, but none this color. I wanted to buy it right away, but since I have a son starting college in 2 weeks, he can use his student discount and get this for his momma (since I pay his tuition anyway!). This shirt can be worn alone, and I had no trouble with gaping in the chest.

When I walked by these pants and stopped to look, the friendly sales lady noticed and said that everyone who had tried them on loved them. I took a chance, and I ended up loving them too. When I flipped thru the new catalog on the way home, I had to dig deep to find them in the horrid product shot. When you don't use this print head to toe, it's actually pretty fun. I love the fit of them. They fit like a normal 4 in my No. 2 Pencil skirts.

I actually like the print of these pants better than the snowcat, but the fit was way off for me. I love the leg and hip, but the waist slid around quite a bit. You can see that the waistband was wider than the hip on me. This is very unusual because I have a thick waist. I might try these in a 2 next time, just to see the difference.

This blouse was so cute, and it fit like a dream. The size 4 was perfect, go with your regular size.
Just being realistic, though, I am not sure how often I would wear a top like this. I am putting it on my wishlist. (You know, the imaginary one- since J Crew STILL doesn't do an online wishlist...)

 Toothpick Ankle Stretch Jean in Shallow Sea. Size 29.
The same sales girl helped me pick the size on these jeans, pointing out that they were the skinniest fit. This was the right size for me, but I didn't like the bulges in the hip on me. I don't know if this is a problem that would be solved by sizing up and wearing a belt. I was trying to move through the try-ons pretty quickly, as my man was waiting on me. I'm on the fence on these, since I love this color so much.

I don't own anything sequined and thought this might be the place to start, but unless I layered it, this would be way too low cut. It was loose on top, so layering may be the best option. It just wasn't love for me, as cute as it is...

I Crack M'Self Up, Ya'll!

Okay, so I have been waiting what seems like forever for this to arrive. I swallowed my coffee and committed to a full-(gasp)price order and started waiting. And waiting. And waiting.
Finally it came! Last Friday. Yes, it has taken me THIS long to stop laughing and write this post.  Now mind you. I had beautiful visions of wearing this warm, fuzzy blazer to idunno:

So imagine my dismay when I rip open my J Crew box and reveal a jacket the color of EASTER eggs! Neon ones.  I started laughing. And I really haven't stopped. So I did what any self-respecting blogger would do. I texted a picture to fellow blogger, AppGal. And then we both had a laugh.  It was so shocking, so unexpected, and ultimately so disappointing. (I mean really, I know it is JUST a jacket.)
It took me this long to get the nerve up to share the photo's with you.  Here are the one's the day it came:

I really should have warned dear AppGal so she could put on her sunglasses first. But let me tell you, I did not give up easily. Two days later, I texted her all these lovelies of me TRYING to make it work with my closet:

Yes, I know that there is laundry all over the place, I was in the middle of it, and just had to get this off my chest. Don't judge,  you know you have laundry in a basket some where. Sock basket anyone?
Well, I tried, but we both agreed, it is just not worth it. Especially when I left this little beauty behind in Leawood.

Needless to say, it is carefully folded back in the box, and will be going back where it came from.

A Few J Crew Reviews

While I was in Kansas City last weekend, I stopped into J Crew to pick up this.
I also tried on a few things that looked nice. I don't think this is much of an official review (wow, that sounded REALLY important,  you know, like World Peace and all that!), because I am not too familiar with their product over the course of time. But here are some things I liked.

Schoolboy Blazer is Wool Flannel, Pearl Gray. Size 4.
I absolutely loved this blazer. I literally stood there looking at it on the hanger after I took it off. BUT I had the Velvet Schoolboy on back order, and knew it was coming, so I waited. Now I am kicking myself.  I will be back for this.

Jackie Cardigan in African Violet and Bright Yellow (not sure the color name on this one.
I came in for the Aluminum, so I knew what I wanted, but these two caught my eye. However, they were very difficult to photograph. I took the close-ups so that you could see a truer rendition of the color.  The purple is very vibrant, and not blue at all. The yellow is very bright- almost neon.  I like both colors, but I feel sure the yellow will make it to sale.  The purple is very popular.

Puff Sleeve Popover. Size 4.

I can't find this color online, but it is available in other colors.  I was drawn to the orange, so I would do a search for it. The fit was great!  I liked it tucked and untucked. One of the things I liked was that the buttons don't go all the way to the hem. It helps with my tummy issues- then the buttons don't gap after I have eaten too many tacos. :)

Navy Lace Pencil Skirt. Size 4.
After all the blog talk about the navy eyelet pencil skirt from summer, this was refreshing. I thought it the fit was nice- but different than my No. 2. The lace is beautiful. I already have a navy lace (cheaper pencil skirt) that I have not worn, so I can't justify this at this time.  But I loved it.
If I hadn't spent so much money at Anthropologie all of these things would have gone home with me.
