Life Catch-Up

When I started working at Gap, I hoped I would have an opportunity to use my creativeness as an asset to the store. I thought that it would take 6 months or more to get that kind of notice, but only about 2 weeks after I started, I got a call at home from the general manager of our store about working more with social media, visuals and events. It's the position I dreamed of. I have had a lot to learn, and still am learning, but I love it! I am so excited to have an opportunity like this, and grateful to every one I work with for being so patient and answering my thousands of questions.
I have been working random crazy hours, so my blog posts are sparse because I am still getting used to balancing my family responsibilities, working, plus a heavy running schedule right now. I'm exhausted!

 What I made m'self over the weekend. I was in desperate need of a makeup bag. So I made my own using scraps and some lace a friend sent me. Needed one big enough to hold both my Urban Decay Naked pallets.

Rough Road Ahead

As I mentioned in a previous post, we have a kid leaving for college. Well... Today is the day. We leave this evening to take him up to KU, where we will attend freshman orientation tomorrow morning, and move him into his dorm Friday morning.
The road to this day has been much more difficult to anticipate. I have run through emotions I never thought I would experience. From sadness to relief. (I think the relief has been the biggest surprise.) Since neither Jay or I went away to college- we were too busy raising this kid, this is a new experience for all of us.
Jay rode his bike with me while I went for a 6 mile run last night, and we talked about the details involving move-in weekend. Towards the end of the conversation, he said, "I just hope he realizes what a great opportunity he has and doesn't do anything to mess it up!" Amen to that, my man! We want so much for this child, and we are so proud of him.
If you think of it, say a prayer for us that we will be wise in our conversations with him, and also that we will know when to just make him tough things out, and not sweep in to save the day.
One new blessing is that my in-laws moved to our town over the summer, so our younger kids can stay with grandparents, and be perfectly well taken care of and not off their routine while we settle our oldest. I'm so thankful for them and their help.

Welcome To Kansas

This weekend, we did something crazy and went to the Kansas State Fair not once, but TWICE! I found out that one of my all-time favorite bands was there, so Jay and I went up Friday night and saw Third Day. I have only seen them a thousand times, but they just keep getting better.
Of all days- it hasn't rained but maybe two days all summer- it drizzled on us at the concert, but it was still amazing and worth it. I am a huge fan of their older stuff, but they played mostly new songs in prep for their new tour. One girl held up a sign, and they played her song (why didn't I think of that?). This is the song she held up on her sign. One of my old favorites.

We took the kids back on Sunday after church. It was neat to walk around all the craft exhibits and the farm animal houses.  (Boy, those PIGS stink! Made me second-guess my decision to have cooked a big ham for our lunch before we left!)
